Background

Ayanna journey into Costume Design actually begins with personal styling. Rapidly acquiring her own set of ‘up and coming’ starlets such as Issa Rae, Simone Missick and Teyonah Parris, she found herself often on the set of music videos, commercials and photo shoots.

After assisting on a small series for FOX, Ayanna set out to on her own - taking on the challenge of designing her own indie film projects. It was after designing a trio of pilots with Issa Rae Productions & ColorCreative, it was Issa who personally asked Ayanna to join her on the pilot of Insecure. Ayanna would go on to design the first three seasons of HBO’s breakout comedy, earning high praise for raising awareness for underrepresented BIPOC clothing brands.

Since making her mark with blistering, eye catching and statement making costume desigsn on Insecure, Ayanna has gone on to design Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar, for its 4th season. Incorporating vibrant colors and meaningful costumes, Ayanna would also design Disney’s Gabby Duran & The Unsittables, pilot, Family Feud directed by Ava DuVernay, starring Jay Z, Beyonce & Blu Ivy. She has worked with others studio’s including NBC/Midwest Livestock for Council Of Dads. Her feature debut took place spring 21 as she was brought on to design Netflix’s Tall Girl 2: Junior Year.
